Shooting the breeze

Earlier this week, I drove around for almost 3 hours looking for an image to illustrate the heavy winds and lingering snow for the Daily Progress. I started in Belmont, went to Pantops and finally ended up at Old Trail in Crozet. The wind was howling across the open space blowing the snow sandstorm in the desert. My only dilemma was no people. Who in their right mind would be out in such conditions besides a guy from the newspaper? I drove the neighborhood with my camera in my lap for almost an hour search and praying someone would appear. I’m sure some the neighbors were getting curious about the white pick-up truck continuously circling their neighborhood. I eventually left and drove thru other parts of Crozet for the next half hour. Contemplating going back to the office, I decided to make one more pass through Old Trail just in time to witness three kids walking across a raised community park area. The following series of photographs were taken out of my car window using a Canon Mark III Ds camera w/ 70-200mm lens as my truck slid to a stop on the icy road. Preparation and persistence paid off once again.
