I got lucky to be in the right place to capture this image but not as lucky as the Virginia Cavalier. After the game I reviewed all the images and realized their was a moment when the Cavalier’s sword went between his fingers and was pointing directly at his chest. Somehow he was able to throw the sword behind him during a mid-air flip and land safely on the ground. Other photographers have pointed out that this photo is a good characterization of the Virginia Cavalier 2009 football season. I just glad the Cavalier came through this accident unscathed.
